Skift Launches Quarterly Brief Tracking Travel Capital Flows

Skift Research has unveiled a new free quarterly report, the Skift Capital Allocation Brief, designed to track where travel’s money is moving and what it means for industry leaders. The inaugural 21-page edition, framed for operators rather than bankers, analyzes a first half of the year that was ‘divided by one night in February’ — when the war with Iran repriced fuel, contributed to Spirit’s collapse, and reset travel company valuations.

Despite the geopolitical shocks, capital kept flowing. The report counts 242 global deals worth $39.6 billion, three take-private transactions, and nearly $6 billion of credit card-issuer capital buying travel supply. Venture funding, however, hit multi-year lows, signaling a cautious investor mood in certain segments.

According to skift.com, the brief offers guidance on where to deploy or hold back capital, how the market now values different travel segments, and shifting demand geography. Valuations have diverged sharply: asset-light lodging businesses and major OTAs command a premium, while travel software faces greater investor skepticism.

Demand geography is also shifting. Asia-Pacific is accelerating, while U.S. inbound travel remains structurally weak. These trends matter for travelers and tourism stakeholders alike, as they shape where new hotels, routes, and experiences will emerge.

The brief positions itself as the first public component of a larger Skift intelligence system to be unveiled at the Skift Global Forum in September. The Q3 edition is scheduled for early October.

For travel professionals and investors, this quarterly read promises to be an essential tool for navigating the evolving landscape of travel capital.
